Blue Ridge Chapter Dragon Drive Spring 2023

Join us for a weekend of amazing driving routes through beautiful SW Virginia.  The event will kick off Friday evening with a group social gathering in the Roanoke, VA area.  Saturday will consist of a drive from Roanoke, VA to Marion, VA where we jump on the famous Rt 16 (A/K/A Back of the Dragon “BOTD”) & head up to Tazewell, VA for lunch.  After lunch, we will pick up a return route that will wind back to the Roanoke area.  There will be another social gathering Saturday evening.  Sunday morning will kick off again in the Roanoke area & will take the group up Rt 311 from Salem into West VA & through the White Sulpher Springs area. The drive will conclude around the Lexington, VA area with a group lunch.

This event is a moderately challenging & a highly spirited drive & will feature curvy mountainous roads as well as stretches of open straight sections.  We do not recommend this drive for individuals who prefer leisurely driving events.

• The routes out to & from the BOTD will offer open straight sections as well as curvy mountainous roads.
• The BOTD is a 32 mile stretch of VA Rt 16 & runs between Marion, VA & Tazewell, VA that offers 438 curves in those 32 miles & traverses 3 mountains.  There will be switchbacks, slaloms, hairpins & spectacular scenic views.
• Rt 311 over Catawba Mountain offers very similar features as BOTD & traverses at least 3 different mountains into West VA

We will reserve a block of rooms at a Roanoke area hotel & those details will be shared with registrants at a later date.  Each attendee is responsible for securing their own accommodations.

All attendees are required to be members in good standing with the BMW CCA.  Membership verification will be conducted prior to the event & is for liability insurance purposes.
